Celebrate the Sisterly Side of Philadelphia’s History with Us!!

An event honoring International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month

Join us on March 8, 2024, for an unforgettable celebration of the sisterly spirit that has shaped Philadelphia’s history. This exclusive event, in honor of International Women's Day and Women's History Month, aims to spotlight the remarkable contributions of women in our community through a walking tour and networking luncheon.

Beyond The Bell Walking Tour

Cost: NAWBO Members $35; Non-members $45

Delve into the heart of Philadelphia's heritage through engaging discussions, inspiring stories, and networking opportunities. Celebrate the achievements of trailblazing women who've left an indelible mark on our city's culture and history.

Beyond the Bell Tours “is inspired by the stories that go untold in Philadelphia.” Co-founder Rebecca is passionate about the intersection of tourism and social justice. She invites us to “uncover the incredible entrepreneurs, doctors, politicians, artists, and activists that have made the city what it is today” by taking its women’s history tour.

Luncheon at Cockatoo

Cost: $30 (members and non-members)

Continue the spirit of sisterhood and celebration at the networking luncheon at Cockatoo. Just as NAWBO has been instrumental in making contributions in the business world, this luncheon is a vibrant opportunity to connect and share stories of empowerment and success in a sisterly atmosphere.

FAQs:

What time does the tour start? Where will we meet? What time should I arrive?

The tour begins at 11:00AM and we will meet our guide at the Philadelphia Independence Visitor Center, 599 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Plan to arrive so you are with the group at 10:55AM.

Is the tour indoors or outside? What about the weather?

The tour is outdoors, aside from one stop inside the Curtis Center to view artwork. The tour operates rain or shine. In the event of snow or some other unusual situation, organizers from NAWBO Greater Philadelphia will contact you to update you about the tour’s status. Make sure you include your mobile phone number in your registration!

How long is the tour?

The tour route is 1.5 miles and takes 1 ¾ to 2 hours.

Any advice on what to wear?

Good walking shoes and clothes that can facilitate you being outside for the tour’s duration. Tip: bring along some water and a snack like a granola bar.

Are restrooms available at the tour’s beginning or along the route of the tour?

The Visitors Center where we start the tour has restrooms and the tour guide advises that she has a few places along the way where we can stop. She encourages attendees to speak up and she will facilitate as many restroom stops as needed.

Access to parking and public transportation

Jefferson Station is the closest station – you just walk down Market Street to meet at the Visitors Center.

Beyond the Bell’s insider parking tips:

Street parking:

  • Behind the Constitution Center between 6th and 5th on Race Street tends to have lots of parking (and it is 12 hours for some reason).
  • If not there, Race Street generally has parking available.
  • North Franklin Street by Franklin Square and MetroClub Condominium are other options for street parking.

Garage parking in the area tends to be about the same price. The one closest to the tour is at 41 North 6th Street, Philadelphia 19106. If that one is full, there is one at 109 North 8th Street, Philadelphia 19106

Lunch at Cockatoos
208 South 13th Street, Philadelphia 19107

Tour attendees reserved for lunch will go directly to Cockatoos at the tour’s conclusion @ 1:00PM. If you are just doing lunch, meet us there at 1:00PM. Please note this is a lunch by reservation through our event registration only. No drop-ins.

Parking is available at multiple lots similarly priced near Cockatoo. Google the address for exact locations.

Lunch will be a Mediterranean-themed buffet with options such as hummus, charcuterie board, flat breads (including vegetarian), and desserts. Each guest will receive a beverage ticket which includes their choice from an array of beverages.\
