"I cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples" - Mother Teresa
I am opening my March message with this quote from Mother Teresa. I think it is extremely relevant for Women’s History Month. I think of all the women in history who have paved the way for us with their sacrifices and courage and I can see them all casting stones across the water and all the ripples.
I have been thinking a lot about my maternal grandmother lately. . My mother’s parents left Cuba in 1959 but since they did not have college educations and they did not have command of the English language, they had to take factory jobs in New York City. My grandparents were hard-working business owners before they left Cuba. I was very close to my maternal grandmother. She passed away at the age of 96 in 2011. She was an inspiration to me in that she was such a strong and independent woman well before women were doing their own thing.
I am sure that you all have a woman like my grandmother in your life that inspired you and helped shape you into the amazing woman that you are! We celebrate and empower women all year long, not just in March but the month of March can be a month of reflection and gratitude.
